Time sheet registration is tracked in hours, the standard base unit of measure for resources. By default, a time sheet shows the common work days of Monday through Friday. You can customize your time sheet display by adding other fields of information, including Saturday and Sunday. For more information, see How to: Add or Remove Columns in a List or on Document Lines.

To enter time into a time sheet and submit it

  1. In the Search box, enter Time Sheets, and then choose the related link.

  2. In the Time Sheet List window, select a time sheet for the relevant time period. On the Home tab, choose Edit Time Sheet.

  3. In the first time sheet line, select the type of time that you are recording.

    Type Description

    Empty

Default. Use to add a note or marker in the Description field of the time sheet line.

    Resource

Use to register time usage for a resource.

    Job

Use to register time usage for a job.

    Service

Use to register time usage for a service order.

    Absence

Use to register the time that you are absent during work hours.

    Assembly Order

Use to register time for assembly orders. You cannot directly select an assembly order. Instead, time sheet information is entered for you if you have posted an assembly order that has a resource that uses time sheets.

For more information, see the Type field.

  4. In the Description field, choose the AssistEdit button to open the Time Sheet Line Job Detail window. In the window, provide required information in the fields about the line. Each line type requires specific details.

For example, if the type is Absence, select the type of absence in the Cause of Absence Code field and then record the number of hours that you were absent for that day.

  5. For each type of time, enter the amount of time that you want to record for each day in the week.

If the type is Assembly Order, you cannot enter the amount of time for an assembly order. The time sheet information comes from the posting process that is associated with assembly orders.

  6. In subsequent lines, continue to add time information for the time period. For example, select the Resource type, and enter the number of hours used by the resource on each day of the week.

    Tip
You can review the sum of time sheet hours that you have entered in the Time Sheet Status FactBox.

  7. On the Home tab, in the Process group, choose Submit. Choose All open lines to submit all lines. Choose Selected line to submit only selected lines. The time sheet is ready to be approved.

    Note
You can choose to submit all or only certain of the lines for approval. However, you can only submit lines for which you have entered time.

  8. To modify information in a line that has been set to Submitted, select the line and on the Home tab, choose Reopen. You can reopen a line at any time until a manager approves or rejects it.

    Note
Sometimes, a manager may reject a line submitted for approval. If a line has a status of Rejected, you can make changes to the line, and then choose Submit again.

  9. Choose the OK button.
