You can attach all types of documents to your interaction templates and interactions.

Attachment Storage

Before you start working with attachments, you must decide where your attachments will be stored. You do this in the Marketing Setup window. There are two options: Embedded and Disk File. For all users to have easy access to these documents, it is recommended that you store them within Microsoft Dynamics NAV (the Embedded option). If you decide to store them on a disk file, you may want to ensure that all users have access to them.

Note
The ability to specify attachment storage type or location is not available for this release.

Which Types of Documents can be Attachments?

Attachments can contain all types of files, for example, Microsoft Word documents, Microsoft Powerpoint presentations, Microsoft Excel files, text files, and so on. Microsoft Dynamics NAV is fully integrated with Microsoft Word, which enables you to create documents including mail merge fields from Microsoft Dynamics NAV, for example, contact number, name, address.

Note
Creating attachments with a trial version of Microsoft Office is not supported.

What You Can Do with Attachments?

There are standard actions you can implement with your attachments.

  • In the Segment window, on the Actions tab, in the Functions group, choose Attachments, and choose the relevant command.
  • In the Interaction Templates window, on the Navigate tab, in the Attachment group, choose the relevant command.

You can do the following actions with your attachments:

  • Open: You can start the associated program, for example Microsoft Word, and the document opens. You can then modify it.
  • Import: You can import all kinds of attachments. For example, you can scan a received letter, import it and attach it to the interaction that records the reception of that letter.
  • Export: You can export attachments to a location on a disk file.
  • Remove: You can remove the current attachment from an interaction template.
  • Copy: You can copy attachments from another interaction template.
