You can close opportunities when the negotiations are over. When closing an opportunity, you can specify the reasons for closing it. To do this, you must set up closed opportunity codes.

You can close opportunities from the Opportunity List window. Depending on where you access the Opportunity List window from, the window shows opportunities for either contacts, campaigns, or salespeople. The following procedure shows how to close opportunities from the Salesperson/Purchaser card.

To close an opportunity

  1. In the Search box, enter Salespeople, and then choose the related link.

  2. In the Salespeople window, select the salesperson who is responsible for the opportunity.

  3. On the Salesperson/Purchaser card, on the Navigate tab, in the Salesperson group, choose Opportunities, and then choose List.

  4. In the Opportunity List window, on the Actions, in the Functions group, choose Close. The Close Opportunity wizard opens.

  5. In the first window of the wizard, select the relevant option to specify whether the opportunity was successful, and choose the Next button.

  6. Fill in the relevant fields in the other windows of the wizard. For more information about a specific field, select the field, and then press F1.

    The Close Opportunity Code and Date Closed fields are required fields and must be filled in before you can choose the Next or Finish buttons.

  7. To close the opportunity, choose the Finish button.

After you have closed the opportunity, the Closed check box is selected and the date that you have specified in the Date Closed field is updated.
